This time last month, the nearest Tesco superstores were in Leeds and York. Now, Harrogate and Ripon residents are spoiled for choice.
After months of waiting, the new Tesco supermarket on Harrogate's Skipton Road officially opened its doors at 8am today (December 9).
The sun had not even risen by the time queues of eager customers started forming outside the new store, who flooded the supermarket after Harrogate mayor, Cllr Chris Aldred, cut the ribbon to mark the opening.
The Harrogate opening comes just weeks after Tesco took over the Ripon unit formerly occupied by Booths.
Customers enjoyed mince pies and drinks, and were welcomed by many of the 181-strong team at the new Harrogate store – including Father Christmas.
There are aisles upon aisles of food and drinks, toys, homeware, electricals, cleaning products, clothing, health and beauty products and gifts, as well as an in-store café.
Unleaded is currently 136.9p at Tesco's pay-at-pump petrol station, which, according to CheckFuelPrices, is currently the cheapest in Harrogate – closely followed by Asda at 137.7p.
Tesco diesel is 146.9p.
We’ve put together a gallery of photos of the new supermarket, which you can look through below.
