Drummers from Harrogate Sea Cadets did their unit proud.

Veterans, cadets, dignitaries and hundreds of members of the public gathered in the autumn sunshine at the war memorial in Harrogate this morning to remember the war dead.

The Remembrance Sunday event started with the Ode of Remembrance, from Laurence Binyon's poem For the Fallen ("They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old...") and prayers, followed by two minutes' silence, which were immaculately observed.

Harrogate town mayor Cllr Chris Aldred laid the first of around 30 wreaths at the base of the war memorial, and others came from the Royal British Legion, armed forces regimental associations, cadets, scouts, guides and even Asda supermarket.

Following bugles sounding the Last Post, the event was rounded off by trainees from the Harrogate Army Foundation College, who marched past as the civic party, which also included York and North Yorkshire mayor David Skaith, took the salute.

A Remembrance Sunday service was held immediately afterwards in St Peter's Church, and Harrogate Brigantes Rotary held a separate service at the later time of 1pm at the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery at Stonefall.

Here are some pictures of the event at the war memorial.
