A Harrogate care home has been given a rating of 'requires improvement' by the Care Quality Commission.
Larchfield Manor, on Leadhall Lane, was assessed by the CQC between August 18 and 27 and found to be “in breach of the legal regulation in relation to governance”.
The report, published on September 15, said that “information within care records was not always accurate, complete or consistent… [which] increased the risk that staff might not always have access to reliable information when providing care”.
Care homes are rated in five categories – being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – and Larchfield Manor received ‘requires improvement’ in both safe and well-led categories. The rest were rated ‘good’.
The service is a residential home providing accommodation and personal care to adults of all ages, including people living with dementia, and is currently home to 34 people.
The report continued:
Systems were in place for governance and oversight of the service. However, we identified inaccuracies and inconsistencies in people’s care records, gaps in fire safety arrangements and environmental risks. These matters had not been identified through the provider’s existing governance processes.
However, people spoke positively of their experiences living at the home, saying they felt safe, well cared for and happy, as well as confident in the staff’s skills.
Individuals told the CQC: “I love it, every staff member is very loving and caring. They like to have a laugh with you, and they never turn you away. They make sure you are alright” and “They are very nice; they chat and ask what you would like.”
The homely atmosphere and ability to personalise rooms was also highlighted by residents, with one saying they were able to pick their own wallpaper and furniture.
The report also praised the skilled staff, cleanliness of the home and the person-centred care.
The Stray Ferret approached Loyalmace Ltd, which runs the home, for comment but receieved no response.
