Members of a Harrogate dance club will perform with popular British DJ Sigala in an attempt to break a world record in March.

E.K Galaxy Cheer and Dance will take 10 of its cheerleaders to Bradford’s Provident Stadium to help break the world record for the most backing dancers to a singer/artist.

Organised by sports entertainment company Pro-Excel, the challenge will see 1,500 dancers from across the country performing alongside the eight-time UK top-10-achieving artist.

The current Guinness World Records record is 993, set in Germany in 2022.

Speaking to the Stray Ferret today (February 11), E.K Galaxy director Eleanor Hetherington couldn’t hide her excitement:

It’s just incredible, a lovely experience for the girls. The youngest one we’re taking is eight years old – these are the memories that will last a lifetime.

The girls are working so hard in rehearsals, and seeing it come to life is amazing. On the day when 1,500 girls and boys are all doing it together, it will be pretty breathtaking.

The record attempt will take place during Sigala’s pre-match show before Bradford Bulls face Huddersfield Giants in the rugby league Super League.

Ms Hetherington said that the club has been invited to watch the game after the performance.

Sigala currently has 5.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and has released songs such as Sweet Lovin’ and Came Here for Love, which have accrued over 436 million views on YouTube.

When asked whether the dance club would get to meet the DJ, Ms Hetherington said:

I’m not sure, but that would be good, wouldn’t it? I’ve not heard anything about it, but I’ll certainly try!

E.K Galaxy Cheer and Dance is a dance and cheerleading club based in North Rigton and at Harrogate Ladies College.

It offers classes for kids aged four and above, with different age categories.

The club has 40 members. You can find out more about the club via its social media pages here and here.
