Harrogate Magistrates Court.

A Harrogate man has been sentenced after admitting intending to supply drugs.

Nicolas Martinez, 19, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (March 5) after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis, possession with intent to supply tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and possession of ketamine at a hearing in December 2025.

Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, said the 19-year-old’s car was searched on the evening of May 3, 2024, after a crash on Tewit Well Avenue.

Ms Tyrer said Martinez fled from police, but was later arrested.

Officers proceeded to search his car and found around £504 in cash, as well as “drug paraphernalia” including THC edibles, 1.33 grams of ketamine with a street value of around £40 and THC vape pens with a value of around £420.

A mobile phone and a USB stick were also seized.

Police also searched Martinez’s home, where they found around 25 grams of cannabis worth between £145 and £180, the court heard.

Ms Tyrer told the court that Martinez gave no comment answers during a police interview and refused to provide his pin password for his mobile phone.

She said:

Police believed he had been involved in the onward supply of cannabis.

Ms Tyrer said Martinez, of West End Avenue, had previous convictions for drink and drug-driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Martinez’s defence said the 19-year-old had pleaded guilty to the offences at the earliest opportunity.

They added that the offences were committed when he was 17 and that, at the time, he had “struggled to distance himself from drugs”.

However, they said he had since “made significant progress” and was close to completing an apprenticeship in roofing.

His defence said:

He has managed to control his drug habit.

Magistrates sentenced Martinez to a 12 month community order, which includes 15 rehabilitation activity days and 120 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay a victims’ surcharge of £114 and £85 court costs.

Magistrates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and “other paraphernalia”.
