The local site is blocked off as work is carried out.

McDonald’s in Harrogate is set to remain closed for another month as it undergoes a refurbishment.

The fast-food chain on Cambridge Road has been blocked off by metal barriers as work is carried out, with a sign saying the company is “making some exciting changes”.

The revamp comes as part of the McDonald’s ‘convenience of the future’ programme, which a company spokesperson said will improve the experience for both customers and staff at the Harrogate site.

McDonald’s describes the programme as a “reimagining” of its restaurants to make customer experiences “quicker, easier and more convenient than ever before”.

A report announcing the programme said:

From redesigning our kitchens and being smarter about space, to better integrating our digital channels with our physical restaurants and introducing more sustainable design, we’re looking at modernising every aspect of the restaurant experience. As part of this redevelopment programme, we will also consider how we can evolve our restaurants to better support a reshaped high street and continue to ensure they play a positive role in our economy.

The report also said ‘convenience of the future’ upgrades could include new kitchen designs at McDonald’s sites, with a bigger “order assembly area” and improved staff rooms.

When the Stray Ferret contacted McDonald’s about the closure, it did not specify what work is to be undertaken at the local site.

The Harrogate restaurant will reopen on March 17.
