A Harrogate primary school has met the required standards following an Ofsted inspection.
Coppice Valley Primary School, on Knapping Hill, was found to have met the expected standard in six of its seven marking criteria: achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the school was judged to have a strong standard of inclusion.
Ofsted visited the school, which has 209 pupils, in January to carry out an inspection.
Inspectors noted that a strong learning structure meant that pupils were invested in their lessons. They said:
Pupils enjoy learning and achieve well. An ambitious and effective curriculum ensures that pupils are ready for their next stage of learning. This is reflected in published outcomes in national tests. Pupils develop their vocabulary as they explore interesting concepts, such as how the Anglo-Saxons impacted Roman Britain.
The report added that pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) generally achieve and thrive.
However, it noted that, in some subjects, pupils can struggle to explain their learning in depth.
Meanwhile, inspectors praised the school’s inclusivity, noting that staff get to know pupils and their families very well.
A strong sense of community was noted with differences celebrated.
They added that staff are well-trained to identify individual student needs as early as possible.
The report also praised pupils’ behaviour at the school:
Pupils behave well. On rare occasions, pupils lose focus. Typically, adults get them back on track quickly. Bullying almost never happens. If bullying occurs, leaders deal with it effectively and quickly. Appropriate support helps vulnerable pupils to attend school regularly and feel safe, just like their peers.
The school was found to encourage and support pupils to attend school regularly.
The report added that leaders understand the difficulties that families can face in ensuring their child gets to school, and work closely with those families to implement strategies to help when pupils struggle to attend regularly.
