Harrogate Tesco has run out of fuel as prices soar across the country.

Tesco has been consistently the cheapest source of fuel in the area in recent weeks. It was advertising 139.9p per litre of unleaded petrol this morning.

The nearby Shell forecourts on Ripon Road and Valero on Skipton Road were selling fuel for about 15p more per litre.

Tesco's prices have led to frequent queues but this afternoon its 24-hour fuel station on Skipton Road was coned off.

According to the government's Fuel Finder website, motorists looking for the next-best price while Tesco is closed will have to travel to Asda on Bower Road, which is selling unleaded petrol at 141.7p per litre.

Fuel Finder says Sainsbury’s was charging 144.9p last night, with Morrisons charging 146.9p per litre yesterday.

Despite rising prices, fuel supply is not running low, according to industry leaders.

A joint statement from Fuels Industry UK chief executive Elizabeth de Jong and Gordon Balmer, executive director of the Petrol Retailers Association, said:

We are aware of reports circulating about fuel availability at a small number of forecourts for one retailer. Supply across the UK is flowing normally and there is no need for any change in usual buying habits.

Fuel prices have skyrocketed across the country as the US-Iran war rages on in the Middle East.

Even some of the country’s famously cheapest petrol stations have had to hike their prices.

When the Stray Ferret investigated fuel prices in December, we found that fuel was being sold at Costco for 128.9p – the cheapest in the area.

As of today, it is over 10p dearer, at 139.9p.
