Harrogate Town goalkeeper James Belshaw has joined Notts County for an undisclosed fee.

The 35-year-old departs during his second spell at Wetherby Road, having rejoined in January 2023.

Belshaw made 284 appearances for Town. When the Stray Ferret interviewed him after he reached 250 appearances in March, he said that he was “shooting for way more than 300” games for the club.

Harrogate manager Simon Weaver said in a club statement:

Belly has done a lot for the club in the promotion seasons and also when he came back two years ago. There's no animosity and we completely respect his decision to leave.

We’re very thankful for his efforts here and obviously wish him well at Notts County, which is the club he supported as a boy.

After signing from Tamworth in 2017, Belshaw played a huge part in the club’s rise to the Football League.

He helped Town to National League North Promotion in his first season, before securing promotion to the EFL two years later at Wembley.

A Harrogate Town club statement added:

The club would like to place on record their sincere thanks to ‘Belly’ for his efforts and wish him good luck for the future.
