Harrogate Town will miss the chance to lift themselves out of the relegation zone after their fixture against Swindon Town was postponed
Simon Weaver’s men were due to entertain high-flying Swindon at the Exercise Stadium on Wetherby Road tomorrow (January 4) at 3pm.
However, following a pitch inspection at 12pm today, the club said the game had been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
A Harrogate Town statement said:
Frost covers had been placed on the pitch immediately after Thursday’s fixture against Tranmere, however after inspection from an EFL appointed referee the pitch has been deemed unplayable and, taking into account travelling supporters and anticipated worsening of conditions, the fixture postponed.
A new date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course, with all tickets purchased remaining valid for the rearranged fixture.
The move means Town will miss the chance to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.
The club currently find themselves bottom of EFL League Two, two points from safety.
Harrogate fell to a 2-0 defeat against Tranmere Rovers on New Year’s Day, which extended their winless run in the league to 14 matches.
In his post-match interview, Weaver said it was time to “dig deep” to get the club out of the bottom of the table.
He added that Town had suffered from injuries the past couple of months and the club were now bringing players back to first team training.
Weaver said:
It can't be denied that that [injuries] has had a detrimental effect on our fortunes for quite a few months now. But we will dig deep as we always do.
I noticed that we are two points from safety. It’s dig deep time and it is the acid test. When you’re out of that ring and when you’re in the ring, it is a completely different place. You totally immerse yourself in it and you live and breathe it.
It’s our responsibility to find a solution and to try and manage players while they are coming back from injury and get the best out of them.
