Harrogate Town have announced the signing of goalkeeper Henry Gray on loan until the end of the season.

Gray, 20, joins Town from Ipswich Town and is available for the Vertu Trophy trip to Stockport County, subject to FA and EFL approval.

It comes as Harrogate manager Simon Weaver confirmed at the weekend that an agreement had been reached for current goalkeeper James Belshaw to join another club. He is expected to join Notts County.

Weaver said Gray was a talented player who was “hungry to do well”.

In a Harrogate Town statement this afternoon, Weaver said:

We’re delighted to have him with us.

He’s a talented young player who's really hungry to do well, he went out on loan last year to Braintree and helped keep them up and had great reviews.

We’ve seen a lot of coverage of him and are excited about what he can bring.

Gray was born in Monchengladbach, before moving to New Zealand at a young age and featured for the likes of Lower Hutt FC, Waterside Karori and Welllington Phoenix.

In May 2023 Gray signed a contract with Ipswich Town, before he went out on loan to gain first team experience at both Chelmsford City and Braintree Town.

In a statement from Harrogate Town, the 20-year-old said he was excited to get started at Harrogate. He said:

The Gaffer has put trust in me to come here and he's seen that last year and I've done the same thing with Braintree in doing my part in keeping them up, so hopefully I can do the same here.” Gray told BBC York.

The lads have made me really welcome, I watched the game on Saturday and Mark Oxley performed really well, so I’m looking forward to competing with him for a place.

It's a step up for me, I've been in the National League South and in the National League and now currently at League Two, so it's a step in the direction of where I want to get to and I can’t wait to show everyone what I can do.
