Harrogate Town striker departs ahead of relegation dogfight

Harrogate Town striker Tom Cursons has left the club ahead of another relegation six-pointer this weekend.

The 24-year-old will move to National League side Boston United for an undisclosed fee.

Since signing for Harrogate from Ilkeston Town in January last year, Cursons made 31 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.

Five of those goals came this season, when the forward seemed to make the most of the limited chances he was afforded.

Cursons scored against Crewe and Stockport in back-to-back games this month and was inches away from equalising against Shrewsbury in a third consecutive game, with what would have been a goal of the season contender.

Many fans were therefore left scratching their heads, wondering what more he had to do when he was substituted at half-time against Gillingham on Saturday.

Cursons was subsequently left out of the squad for what would have been his last game against Fleetwood on Tuesday.

Having signed Emile Acquah and Aiden Marsh in the January transfer window, Harrogate were left with six strikers at the club, Cursons included.

A statement from Harrogate Town today (January 30) said:

Harrogate travel to Crawley tomorrow in what is another relegation six-pointer for Simon Weaver’s men.

Town are two points adrift at the bottom of the table in League Two, with many of their relegation rivals having games in hand over the North Yorkshire side.

Crawley are five points ahead of the Sulphurites, who have not won a league game since September.

But Crawley’s form is not much better – the West Sussex side has managed one win since the beginning of November.

This is crunch time for Simon Weaver.

Continuing to lose against teams near the relegation zone will leave many wondering where they’re going to pick up the points they desperately need to drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

The match starts at 3pm tomorrow.
