A Harrogate woman has been accused of power of attorney fraud.

Joanne Manship, 51, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (February 26) accused of three counts of fraud by abuse of position and one count of concealing, disguising, converting, transferring or removing criminal property.

Robert Moorhouse, her 58-year-old partner, also appeared in court. He is accused one count of concealing, disguising, converting, transferring or removing criminal property, and one count of acquiring, using or possessing criminal property.

They both gave no indication of plea to all the charges.

Ms Manship, of Redfearn Mews, is alleged to have committed fraud while acting as power of attorney for her uncle, who died in 2022, between October 1, 2018, and November 19, 2022.

She is accused of withdrawing cash and writing cheques for herself, as well as taking proceeds from the sale of her uncle's house.

Ms Manship also allegedly concealed, disguised, converted, transferred or removed criminal property – namely, money – by writing cheques and making bank transfers to herself and Mr Moorhouse.

Mr Moorhouse, also of Redfearn Mews, is also accused of concealing, disguising, converting, transferring or removing criminal property – again, money – during the same period.

He also allegedly acquired, used or possessed criminal property in the form of a Rolex watch.

The prosecution, defence and magistrates all agreed the case should be sent to a crown court.

It was subsequently transferred to York Crown Court, where Ms Manship and Mr Moorhouse are expected to enter pleas on April 6.

They were both released on unconditional bail.
