A Harrogate woman is taking part in Channel 4's newest reality show.

Patricia Sutcliffe, 75, is the oldest of 13 cast members in The Inheritance, which started on Sunday (August 31).

Actress Elizabeth Hurley plays 'the deceased', whose inheritance is up for grabs. Each episode, the contestants take part in a challenge and work together to earn as much of the fortune as possible.

They then decide who will take home the money — with one person taking a chunk of the inheritance each episode — by nominating themselves and explaining why they are the rightful beneficiary.

Robert Rinder, who hosts the show, plays the deceased's executor and legal counsel.

Ms Sutcliffe, who also featured in an episode of ITV's This Time Next Year in 2019,  told the Stray Ferret:

People at my age don't do these kinds of experiences but I want to prove that you can.

I live my life by opportunities, and I thought going on this show would be the best experience ever.

I can show people that age doesn't have to hold you back from taking on new experiences and challenges.

Asked if she is competitive, Ms Sutcliffe told Channel 4:

I am competitive as hell. I won't let the grandchildren win! One is only four. When I'm teaching chess, they know that I'm not going to let them just win. It’s important to lose, because that's when you really learn.

Ms Sutcliffe, who is a writer and ghost writer, co-wrote 'Handcuffed Emotions' with West Yorkshire Police officer, Ben Pearson.

She has also published three of her own books and her fourth, 'Beyond the Mortal Coil', is set to be released this week.

She is a former chess teacher and university lecturer, and now teaches guided meditation.

The 12-episode series will air at 9pm on Mondays and Sundays, and 9.30pm on Tuesdays.
