Harrogate’s para powerlifting prodigy, Lottie McGuinness, is set to compete in the European Open Championships in Georgia this weekend.
Competing in the women’s up to 61kg category, McGuinness will battle 12 other athletes for the gold medal.
A total of 196 athletes from 27 nations will compete in the games.
This is another step on the path to the LA Paralympics in 2028, with the championships being labelled a “mandatory” event for qualification.
Not only will the games help McGuinness’s Olympic hopes, but they will also prove vital for the athlete’s upcoming Commonwealth Games preparation.
In February, McGuinness was selected to represent GB in Glasgow later this year.
Speaking to the Stray Ferret last month, the Paralympian said that she was proud of her progress so far, both for the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
The athlete has competed in Tbilisi before, bringing home a gold medal from the World Para Powerlifting World Cup in 2023.
And she will be looking to add to her substantial medal collection this time too.
Lottie McGuinness will compete at 10.45am local time (6.45am GMT) on Sunday, March 8.
