Toni Cowdell to Senior Sales Adminstrator at Harvey George, shares insights into how bespoke bathroom vanity units are shaping the transformation of bathrooms — spaces that are evolving into some of the most considered areas in the home, where design, craftsmanship, and personal expression matter more than ever, drawing on first-hand conversations with homeowners and interior designers.

As part of the sales team at Harvey George Limited, I spend my days speaking with homeowners and interior designers who are investing more thought — and more expectation — into their bathrooms than ever before. Bathrooms are no longer purely functional spaces. In today’s homes, they are design-led sanctuaries — places to slow down, invest in quality, and make a confident style statement and at the heart of this transformation sits the bathroom vanity.

One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed is how confidently clients are moving away from standard, off-the-shelf solutions. Instead, they want bespoke vanity units designed specifically for their home. Bathrooms rarely come in perfect shapes, especially in older or character properties. A bespoke vanity allows us to tailor the dimensions, storage, and layout so every inch of space works hard. From my conversations with clients, this isn’t about indulgence — it’s about getting something that genuinely fits their lifestyle and their room.

Last year and continuing into this year, there’s been a noticeable return to natural materials, particularly solid wood, oak vanity units are increasingly being requested. Natural wood brings warmth and texture into a bathroom, helping to soften harder surfaces like stone, glass and porcelain. Paired with marble, quartz or ceramic worktops, wood creates a sense of understated luxury that feels timeless.

Soft sage, eucalyptus and muted olive greens work beautifully in bathroom spaces. They add subtle colour without overpowering the room and pair effortlessly with natural materials like wood, stone and brushed brass. At Harvey George, we can paint vanity units to suit individual colour schemes. This flexibility means clients aren’t restricted to standard colours — instead, they can achieve a cohesive, considered look that reflects their personal style and complements the materials and finishes used throughout the space.

Wall-mounted, floating vanity units continue to grow in popularity, particularly in modern homes. By lifting the vanity off the floor, designers create a feeling of space and light — ideal for smaller bathrooms or minimalist interiors. Floating designs also allow for under-unit lighting, adding a soft, ambient glow that enhances the overall atmosphere.

While trends influence details, many homeowners are choosing vanity designs that will stand the test of time. Our clients want confidence that their bathroom will still feel relevant in ten or fifteen years. That’s where considered design and quality materials really matter.

Bathrooms are one of the most heavily used spaces in the home, and investing in well-made furniture is something our clients increasingly see as a long-term decision.

At Harvey George, we specialise in handcrafted, bespoke vanity units, combining traditional joinery with modern design principles.
