Hospital to offer behind-the-scenes glimpse with two open days

Harrogate District Hospital is inviting local people to step behind the scenes at two open days next month and discover more about how their hospital works.
The open days will take place from 10am to 4pm on Friday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 20, with nearly 30 hospital departments coming together to showcase their services and the vital work they carry out for patients across Harrogate and the surrounding district.
The events form part of the 200th anniversary celebrations marking the opening of Harrogate’s first hospital, the Harrogate Bath Hospital.
Dr Jacqueline Andrews, executive medical director at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, said:
Our open days are a wonderful opportunity for people to see first-hand the passion, expertise and teamwork that goes into caring for our community every day.
Whether you’re curious about how your hospital works, interested in a career in healthcare, or simply want to meet the people behind the scenes, we would love to welcome you.
We’re incredibly proud of our staff and our history, and we’re excited to share our plans for the future with everyone who attends.
Visitors will be able to speak directly with teams from a wide range of services including paediatrics, pathology, podiatry and pharmacy, as well as general surgery, ophthalmology, orthodontics, community nursing and cardiology. The trust’s digital team will also be on hand to give a glimpse into how digital innovation is shaping the future of healthcare locally.
Those interested in a career in healthcare or volunteering will have the chance to find out more about the wide variety of roles available at Harrogate District Hospital and how to get involved.
Interactive demonstrations, activities and displays will be available throughout the day, including equipment demonstrations, and opportunities to learn practical health and wellbeing tips. Guests will also be able to meet staff from different departments, learn about their roles, and discover how hospital teams work together to improve the patient experience every day.
The open days will be held in the Herriots Lounge (behind Herriots Restaurant),on the first floor of Harrogate District Hospital.
During the events, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust will also be raising funds to buy equipment for the trust’s first clinical research facility, which opened earlier this year.
