The Liberal Democrats have announced a full slate of 19 candidates to contest the first-ever Harrogate Town Council elections on May 1.

The 19 names include three current North Yorkshire councillors — Chris Aldred, Monika Slater and Andrew Timothy.

The other candidates include Andrew Kempston-Parkes, who runs a chartered surveying business in Harrogate and Edward Metcalfe, who works in the office of Tom Gordon.

Mr Gordon was elected MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough last year and the Liberal Democrats will be hoping to build on that success in four weeks’ time.

The party has announced a ‘Six to Fix’ plan as part of its campaign in Harrogate. The six priorities are: a voice for the town; more facilities for young people; fighting congestion; boosting tourism; safer streets; and pride in Harrogate.

Chris Aldred, the party’s town council candidate for High Harrogate, said:

The Conservatives have neglected Harrogate for too long. Our ‘Six to Fix’ plan is about real action — not empty promises. We are committed to improving our town and making sure residents feel heard, supported, and valued.
