Several local schools and several attractions said today they will remain closed due to the ongoing freezing temperatures and icy weather.
The Stray Ferret has provided regular updates on the snow and ice, including lists of school closures and travel updates, since early Sunday morning.
Many schools remain closed today (January 7) and with the freezing temperatures continuing, the ice and snow see no sign of thawing, disruption is likely to continue for several days. Here's what happened today (January 7).
Harrogate Grammar School intends to open tomorrow.
In an email to parents, it said staff have worked hard to clear and grit the school grounds, ensuring it is safe for students and staff.
The email said school leaders will reassess the site early tomorrow morning and an update will be published on the school's website by 7am.
Western Primary will open late tomorrow. The school and nursery will start at 9.45am and doors will remain open until 10.15am.
Rossett High School hopes to reopen tomorrow. It said on social media staff have cleared a significant amount of snow and ice today.
The school added:
"The decision will be reviewed first thing in the morning, and we will share any updates as soon as we can, and by 7am at the latest. Therefore, please check our website, social media and emails in the morning."
New Park Primary Academy will also close tomorrow. It said on social media:
"Unfortunately, and despite our best efforts to make it safe, the school site remains very dangerous. Several members of staff were unable to make it in to school today and the surrounding side roads, where many of you park, are already feeling treacherous."
A post on social media said Richard Taylor CE Primary School will open tomorrow for those needing 'emergency childcare'.
However, this has not been confirmed by the school.
The author of the post told the Stray Ferret they are a parent at the school.
Ripon Grammar School opened both yesterday and today.
A spokesperson for the school said the headmaster and senior leadership team assess conditions each morning, and the default position is "the school will be open unless parents are otherwise informed".
Saltergate Schools will remain closed tomorrow. It said on social media:
"Following lengthy consideration around the safety of our site and the weather forecast for tomorrow, we have made the decision to close both schools again on Wednesday 8th January."
Coppice Valley Primary School told the Stray Ferret the school will open late tomorrow.
The school will open to students at 10am. Parents will be alerted as soon as possible in the morning if a full closure becomes necessary.
St Aidan's Church of England High School will open for years 7 to 11 tomorrow. The school said the site is safe.
However, as St John Fisher Catholic High School is closed tomorrow, St Aidan's sixth form pupils are asked to stay at home and access remote learning.
The school said on social media senior leaders will be on site by 6.30am tomorrow and, if the school needs to close, parents will be alerted before 7am.
Oatlands Infant School will remain shut tomorrow. In an email to parents, headteacher Christopher Harrison said the school is unable to safely open tomorrow.
The playgrounds are covered in black ice, and the surrounding roads and pavements are "dangerously icy".
The Forest School in Knaresborough will remain shut tomorrow. In a message to parents, the school said the site remains treacherous due to the weather.
Grewelthorpe C of E Primary School's website said parents will be notified by 7.30am tomorrow about whether the school is open or closed.
Harrogate Ladies' College closed early at 3pm today. It said online a decision will be made by 7am tomorrow:
"We apologise for any inconvenience and we will aim to be open as normal tomorrow. We will however reassess the conditions early in the morning and contact parents by 7am."
A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office. The warning, which includes the Harrogate and Nidderdale areas of the district, is in place from 5pm today until midday tomorrow.
Harrogate College will remain closed tomorrow due to the icy weather. It said online:
"We will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday 8 January) due to continued unsafe travel conditions.
"Online learning will be in place for all students. We will review the situation for the rest of the week."
North Yorkshire Council has contracted a firm to grit local roads on quad bikes. We spotted one near the Stray Ferret offices today.
Harrogate High School will reopen tomorrow but students are to go into school late.
The school will open at 10.30am but students are to arrive from 10.20am.
Harrogate High School urged parents not to attempt to drive onto the school site unless their child has access issues.
Headteacher Sukhraj Gill said the school will try give as much notice as possible if the arrangements change due to continued freezing temperatures.
The garden and garden centre at RHS Harlow Carr are closed today and will remain closed tomorrow and Thursday (January 9).
The inside of the garden centre and Bettys Tea Rooms will open tomorrow and Thursday, from 11am until 3pm, the RHS said.
St John Fisher Catholic High School, which is closed today, shared on social media this afternoon it would also be shut tomorrow (January 8). It said online:
"In light of the current weather conditions and forecast overnight temperatures, and taking into account independent health and safety advice, school will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday 8th January)."
National Trust sites Brimham Rocks and Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Estate said online they would both be closed for the rest of the week following recent heavy snowfall.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal today said the melting snow has frozen over and sheet ice is covering the paths and car parks across the estate.
The site said on social media a decision will be made on Friday about when the estate will reopen but it will be closed for the rest of the week.
It added the team does not take the decision to close the estate lightly and closures have a “big impact on us as a charity too”.
Brimham Rocks will also remain closed for the remainder of the week. Its website says the car park and paths are “impassable with thick snow”.

Stump Cross Caverns at Greenhow Hill – the highest point in the Harrogate district – will also close for several days due to the weather.
It said on social media it will remain shut until Friday (January 10), adding:
"Due to heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures in the forecast, we have made the decision to close until Friday to ensure the safety of our staff and customers. We appreciate your understanding during this time. We haven’t seen as much snow in a long time and the drifts are causing chaos."
