A man has admitted careless driving after knocking over a motorcyclist on a road in Killinghall.
Rob Angood, of Halton in Leeds, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (May 7) where he spoke to confirm his name, age and address.
Angood, 37, admitted driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after the collision to exchange details on February 28 this year.
Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, told the court that a named 17-year-old boy had been driving his moped to a friends house at around 9pm on the night of the incident.
Ms Tyrer said the named boy pulled over on Grainbeck Lane to call his friend on his mobile phone.
After he finished the call, he said he looked up to see a “car driving towards me quickly and erratically”.
Ms Tyrer said:
The boy said the driver hit his bike at the front and knocked him to the ground.
The prosecution said a male and female then got out of the car to ask the named victim if he was okay.
Angood, who was the driver of the car, also asked him if he needed a lift home but he declined, the court heard.

Otley Road and Grainbeck Lane in Killinghall.
After the named victim’s friend came to help, he was taken to hospital. He suffered bruising to his legs due to the collision.
The court heard that police managed to track Angood’s Cupra Leon to Cheltenham Crescent in Harrogate later that evening.
Officers arrested the defendant when he returned to the car. Angood made a full admission to police.
Ms Tyrer said:
He [Angood] accepted that he had not exchanged details with [named victim]. Instead, he had seen to make his way into Harrogate to socialise.
Michelle Stewart, defending, said the case was an “unfortunate incident” which Angood had made a full admission to.
She said the defendant was lost and had pulled over into a lay-by Otley Road to turn his car around onto Grainbeck Lane.
Ms Stewart said:
It was dark and not well lit. He accepts that he must have missed the fact that the motorcyclist was in the road. He accepts that he should have taken more care on the manoeuvre.
Ms Stewart told the court that Angood helped the named victim up after the crash and offered to take him to the hospital and phone the police, but the named victim declined.
She added that the 37-year-old “simply forgot” to share details with the victim as he had never been in an accident before.
The defence said Angood had taken the car, which was a company vehicle, into Harrogate to be nearer work and to meet a friend who would take him home.
Ms Stewart told magistrates that a driving disqualification would “massively impact” his life as he was the “sole breadwinner” for his family.
Magistrates fined Angood £583 and endorsed his licence with eight points.
He was also ordered to pay a victims’ surcharge of £233 and court costs of £85.
