Mystery surrounds the apparent closure of a longstanding Harrogate takeaway.

Chico’s Continental, on Commercial Street, has been part of Harrogate's hospitality scene for many years but there has been seen no sign of life there for some time.

The Stray Ferret has attempted to contact Chico's and visited Commericial Street where nearby shop owners said there had been no activity at the venue for weeks.

Both North Yorkshire Council and the Home Office told us they had not taken any action against the business, contrary to social media rumours.

Chico’s, which sold pizzas, kebabs and burgers, was a popular destination for Harrogate's late night scene.

Its apparent demise prompted people to reminisce on social media about going there after '10p a pint night' at Josephine’s nightclub, which closed in the 1990s.

Chico's Harrogate Ltd is still listed as an active company on the Companies House website. Its latest accounts, signed by director Fuat Gundogan in December last year, said the firm employed 14 staff.
