A new restaurant looks set to open in Harrogate after plans were approved.
Aldino’s Pizza Ltd applied to North Yorkshire Council to change the use of a unit on 15 Cheltenham Parade.
The unit, which was previously Jack’s Bar, is currently empty.
Now, the council has approved plans to convert it into a restaurant and takeaway.
According to proposals submitted to the authority, the unit would include “modest work” including a change of signage and extractor system.
The developer said the takeaway would be an “ancillary element” to the restaurant. In a planning statement, it said:
Whilst it is envisaged that take-away will be an ancillary element, it is nonetheless sought to have equal provisions for a take-away element as it is impossible to predict the split between restaurant and take-away business and given the constantly evolving nature of high street food businesses it is necessary to cater for all custom types and changing trends.
In a decision report, Edward Bainbridge, planning case officer at North Yorkshire Council, said the proposal would “contribute positively” to the area.
He said:
Given the unit is currently empty and the external works cause no visual harm, the development is considered to be an improvement on the existing empty shopfront and is deemed to contribute positively to the character and appearance of the street with the conservation area deemed to be persevered.
