While Harrogate might be full of coffee shops, there are far fewer places to get burritos, tacos and other TexMex classics — but that's about to change.
A new takeaway, Viva el Picante, is set to open in early October on Station Parade, opposite the bus station.
The Mexican-inspired food will include 12-hour slow-cooked birria, loaded tacos, and 'filthy' mac and cheese.
The location is that of the former I am Doner, which is. being rebranded as The Harrogate Kebab Co, and will run alongside it – both run by the same owner.
Both brands will have click and collect and delivery options available, and once the technology is ready to go customers will be able to order instore.
Paul Baron, founder of I Am Doner and Viva el Picante, said:
Just to clear up any rumours — The Harrogate Kebab Co isn’t closing! Quite the opposite. Viva el Picante is our brand-new sister concept and will be operating alongside it.
Viva is something we’ve dreamed about and planned for a long time. I have a huge passion for all things Latin American — the music, art, culture and, obviously, the food — and we want that culture and energy to be a massive part of the brand rather than it simply being another food concept.
The bigger dream? One day we’d love to see Viva el Picante grow into a full music, tequila and taco bar in its own right — somewhere with amazing food, great music and a proper atmosphere.
