The company that owns Nidd Hall has issued a statement after a pre-Christmas outbreak of suspected norovirus at the 45-acre hotel near Harrogate.

Nidd Hall fully closed for a 24-hour period on the morning of December 22 after guests reported norovirus symptoms, which include sickness and diarrhoea.

It re-opened for hotel guests at check-in on December 23, but the hotel and the leisure club, including the sauna and steam room, remains closed to leisure members and external day visitors.

A spokesperson for hospitality company Warner Hotels, which operates 14 UK sites, said:

We temporarily closed the hotel for a 24-hour period as a precaution after some guests reported symptoms consistent with norovirus, which has been circulating widely in the local area. The hotel was immediately deep cleaned in line with public health guidance, and affected guests were supported. The hotel has since reopened.

The company does not believe there is any evidence linking the incident to poor hygiene, but it has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols.

It has also introduced a ‘served buffet’ method to minimise risks associated with touch.

Nidd Hall, in the village of Nidd, was built in the nineteenth century.
