Oh yes, it is! Harrogate pantomime among best in country

Harrogate’s pantomime was recognised as one of the best in the country at an awards event last night.
David Bown was among five people nominated for best scriptwriter at the UK Pantomime Awards in High Wycombe.
Mr Bown, who is also the theatre’s chief executive, was recognised for writing Jack and the Beanstalk, which was performed over the 2025 festive period.
Tim Stedman, who has played the fool in Harrogate’s pantomime for a quarter-of-a-century, was with Mr Bown at the event.
Harrogate Theatre posted on social media this morning:
To have our wonderful pantomime script ranked in the top 5 out of 603 pantos is such an incredible achievement.
Being nominated was amazing and we’re so proud of everyone at Harrogate Theatre who helps make the show what it is.
Andrew Pollard won the best script category for Beauty and the Beast at Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield.
Other winners included Gary Wilmot, who won best direction for Cinderella at Richmond Theatre, and Brian Conley and Lesley Joseph, who were co-winners of the first-ever panto icon awards.
The awards, which were organised by Trafalgar Entertainment and ATG Entertainment, were staged for the fifth year.
They showcase ‘the breadth of talent, skill, enthusiasm and hard work from the creative forces, production teams and cast members who work tirelessly year-round to deliver outstanding entertainment to theatres across the country’.
