Plans submitted to extend Harrogate farm shop and café
A planning application has been submitted to expand a farm shop and café in Harrogate.
The Yorkshire Agricultural Society wants to extend Fodder, which is located at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
Design consultants Pleydell Smithyman have sent a planning statement to North Yorkshire Council on behalf of the society.
It oulines plans to extend not only the café, but also the adjoining staff facilities and the café’s takeaway facility, Fodder on the Hoof.
Fodder, which was established in 2009 by the society, closed in January until March this year for a major refurbishment.

Under the latest plans, the Fodder on the Hoof food truck will be removed from the site entirely and the takeaway business will relocate to larger premises on land currently used as a parking area.

The planning statement concludes:
The aim of the proposals is to build on and improve the existing business offer in order to improve the profitability of the business. This can then be reinvested in the work of the charity, supporting the local agricultural community.
The proposals have been carefully designed to reflect the style and appearance of the existing building, providing an attractive overall site.
The proposed works are sustainable in that they will help to support an established local, charitable business which will contribute to the local economy, the site is an already developed site with an existing visitor base and the works will provide an improved service and experience for visitors and the local community.
