Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
This week, the Stray Ferret reported that West Yorkshire Combined Authority had delayed a decision on releasing funding for the Harrogate Station Gateway project. Our readers had their say, which you can read below.
Why are they so insistent on carrying on with doing Station Parade? They wasted £2.2 million on Otley Road for cyclists who prefer to use the road. As for the cost of £12 million pounds stated have they included the £2 million increase and the £4 million on consultants?
Leonard Redmond
All those people who submitted positive comments to three rounds of formal consultation are being ignored by those who have decided that "Harrogate knows best. Meanwhile the town centre continues on its downward slide".
David Rockliff
I along with a lot more residents of Harrogate have never seen any figures that allows them to say “a few people are holding this hairbrained scheme up". Would they like produce some facts for a change?
William Morritt
This week, we also reported on private security being drafted in to help police Harrogate at weekends in the run-up to Christmas. Here's what our readers had to say.
This is the thin end of the wedge, and is policing on the cheap.
Colin Harrison
Special Constabulary used to be used for these occasions. Doesn't say a lot for state of law and order in this country now. Successive governments have water down legislation and created some stupid laws instead. Going from bad to worse.
William Morritt
