A Stray Ferret Christmas appeal for Resurrected Bites raised more than £30,000. Like the charity, we rely on public support to survive. Please support independent local journalism so we can support the district by subscribing here. It costs as little as 14p a day.
Michelle Hayes is to step down as chief executive of the food waste charity and community interest company Resurrected Bites.
Ms Hayes, who founded the organisation in 2018, said she had made the decision after “much soul searching”.
She said the decision would allow a new chief executive to lead the charity through its next phase.
Ms Hayes said:
After eight years of having the privilege of leading an incredible team which has served thousands of people and saved many tonnes of food from going to waste, I have decided it is time for me to move on to a new venture and for someone else to take Resurrected Bites to the next stage. We are in the strongest position we have ever been in and there has never been a better time to hand over the reins.

The Harrogate-based charity collects good-quality surplus food and redistributes it through low-cost community groceries and give-as-you-can cafés in Harrogate, Killinghall and Knaresborough.
The model reduces food waste while improving access to affordable food and strengthening community connection.
The chief executive role is part-time, home-based with local travel, and combines strategic leadership with hands-on oversight.
In a statement today announcing Ms Hayes’ departure, Resurrected Bites said the board was looking for “an experienced senior leader with strong financial oversight, operational competence and the ability to build trusted local partnerships”.
Richard Hall, chair of trustees said:
“Resurrected Bites has proven that a practical, well-run model can reduce food waste and improve access to affordable food and tackle loneliness, all at the same time. We are now looking for a new Chief Executive who can strengthen what we’ve built and position us for long-term resilience.”
The deadline for applications is March 27.
