Revolución De Cuba, Harrogate

Harrogate’s Latin American-themed bar Revolución De Cuba is to close with immediate effect, it was announced today (January 27).

The Stray Ferret reported yesterday that the venue faced an uncertain future after its parent company, the Revel Collective, filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

The Revel Collective, whose brands also include Revolution and Peach Pubs, today confirmed it had appointed FTI Consulting LLP as administrator and it had sold some of the assets.

But 14 Revolution, six Revolucion de Cuba and one Peach Pubs site  did not form part of the deals and would be immediately closed with the loss of 591 jobs.

Revolución De Cuba sites in Harrogate, Liverpool, Reading, Derby, Cardiff and Aberdeen will close, alongside Revolution sites in Leeds, Sheffield and Huddersfield.

The Harrogate bar, on Parliament Street, had been open since 2016.

In a statement, the Revel Collective said some Revolution, Revolución de Cuba and Founders & Co have been sold to Neos Hospitality.

Peach Pubs has been sold to Coral Pub Company Acquisition Limited.

The statement said:

The transactions secure the continuation of 20 Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders & Co bars and 21 Peach pubs, and protect 1,582 jobs across the sites and central support function.

Regrettably 14 Revolution, six Revolucion de Cuba and one Peach site did not form part of the transaction and those sites are being closed with immediate effect impacting 591 employees.

The news is the latest blow to Harrogate’s hospitality scene.

Banyan Bar and Kitchen, which had been a permanent fixture on John Street for two decades, shut its doors on January 3, while Savoro pizzeria and bar closed its Beulah Street premises suddenly before Christmas.

Jay Smith, owner of Montey’s on The Ginnel, last week told the Stray Ferret bars had reached a “tipping point” due to the tough trading environment. He said his venue’s rateable value will go up from April 1, from £60,000 to £95,000 - an increase of nearly 60%.
