A girls' football team at a Harrogate school has been crowned county champions.
Saltergate School, whose previous students include former England international footballer Rachel Daly, competed against schools from across North Yorkshire at Richmond School yesterday (January 15).
The tournament consisted of seven 10-minute matches in the run-in to the final.
The team got off to a flying start, winning 7-0 in their opening match. They concluded the tournament in emphatic fashion, delivering a 6-0 win to seal their status as county champions.
Over the course of the tournament, they scored 18 goals.
Pupils and staff gathered at the school entrance when the girls returned to celebrate their remarkable achievement.
Headteacher Jo Hall said:
The entire Saltergate community is bursting with pride at this remarkable achievement. The girls worked so hard to bring the trophy home and I know we will be celebrating their success for some time.
My thanks go to the staff and parents who supported the children at the event. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Rossett School, who kindly transported the team to the finals in one of their minibuses. Their support has been invaluable, and we are delighted that they have already offered to assist us again for our next match
With the county title secured, the team now looks towards the regional championships in the hope of extending its success.
