St Michael’s Hospice is hoping to raise up to £50,000 to fund the relocation of its counselling services.

The Harrogate charity plans to merge its grief counselling service, Just 'B', with its palliative care service, located at Hornbeam Park.

Just 'B', which is currently located at Burton House on Hookstone Oval, aims to provide a safe and confidential place to talk about emotional wellbeing issues such as grief, low mood and anxiety. The service is used by 750 children and adults each year.

Tony Collins, chief executive at Just 'B' and St Michael’s Hospice, said:

We want to carry on providing the service we are doing for even more people, because the demand is getting bigger and bigger.

But Mr Collins told the Stray Ferret this is becoming more difficult due to a lack of statutory funding.

The charity will hold fundraising events to raise money to relocate its bereavement support service, and will rely on grants and community donations.

However, St Michael's Hospice hopes the move will save between £50,000 and £60,000 each year, as rent and utilities at the existing Just 'B' site currently cost £60,000.

"It makes more sense to integrate", Mr Collins said.

St Michael's Hospice hopes the transition will be completed by next April.
