Firefighters had a busy night responding to fallen trees as Storm Dave passed through the Harrogate district.
An amber weather warning was in place due to strong winds.
The first call-out occurred at 5.46pm, when a crew from Knaresborough was sent to deal with a tree that was hanging dangerously over a public footpath on Bond End.
Crews taped off the area and left the incident with the council.
As the storm was reaching its peak at 11.14pm, Harrogate firefighters were called to Main Street in Ripley where tree branches had crashed on to the roof of a car.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report said:
“Crews used a saw to split the branch and remove it before checking the vehicle for any damage. The incident was left with the car’s owner.”
Shortly afterwards, the Harrogate crew was back out at 00.50am, dealing with a tree on the roof of a house on Oakdale Avenue in the town.
The incident report said:
“Crews inspected the property for any damage and gave advice to the property owners.”
Besides the storm incidents, firefighters also responded to two calls of people being trapped.
The first, at 6.55pm, saw someone locked in the public toilets in Library Gardens in Harrogate. Firefighters used a door enforcer to free them unharmed.
Just after 9pm, Ripon’s crew was mobilised to reports of people locked in the World Heritage Site Studley Royal Park
The incident report said:
“Crews liaised with police and were able to make contact with a keyholder. No fire service action was taken.”
