A van overturned when its driver was stung by a wasp and went into anaphylactic shock in a village near Harrogate today (July 28).
Two fire crews from Harrogate were called to Follifoot Lane in Kirkby Overblow at 8.31am this morning, after reports of a van on its side down a farm track.
On arrival, they found that the driver had been stung by a wasp and suffered an anaphylactic shock, according to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's incident report.
An anaphylactic shock occurs when the body has a severe and sudden allergic reaction.
The report added the man had administered medication before losing consciousness at the wheel.
Crews used equipment to stabilise the van, then employed cutters, spreaders and small tools to release the driver, who by then had regained consciousness.
The man was left in the care of paramedics.
