North Yorkshire Council has today (January 15) released a flyover video of the 4.2 kilometre A59 Kex Gill realignment.

The £82.5 million scheme has been described by authority officials as the "biggest construction scheme the council has ever done”.

The project, which is due to open on June 3, will see the landslip-prone key east-west route linking Harrogate and Skipton realigned.

Now, the council has revealed a flyover video of the progress made on the scheme.

The drone footage shows the existing road before going on to capture the scale of the realignment project.

You can watch the full video below.

Karl Battersby, corporate director for environment at the council, showed the video to business leaders at a Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce meeting on Monday (January 12).

Mr Battersby said the council had spent £3 million repairing the existing road during construction of the new road because of landslips, the most recent of which occurred on January 1 last year.

He said the project had involved creating 9 km of drainage, taking down and rebuilding almost two miles of stonewalls, creating otter ledges and planting 80,000 trees in a “pretty unforgiving environment”.

Between now and June, the bridge at Blubberhouses is due to be re-waterproofed and the tie-ins to the existing road will be constructed.
