Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of sports action in the Harrogate district, focusing on the first team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs.

Here's what happened during the week of March 9 to 15.

1. Harlow Hill through to league cup next round

Harlow Hill progressed to the next round of the West Yorkshire League Cup on Saturday by thrashing Mount St. Marys 8-1. Hayden Gray, Will Bates, Harry Galton, Tendai Irvine Machama, Sam Ryan, Lewis Murray and Will Kemp all got on the scoresheet. It has been a brilliant season so far for Harlow, who are top of West Yorkshire Association League Division One, and they will wonder if they can go all the way in the cup, too. They face Premier Division side Altofts in the next round.

2. Boroughbridge into second with win

Boroughbridge AFC moved into second place in the WYAL Division One with a 1-0 victory over Silsden Whitestar. Jamira Adams, the sole goalscorer, was named player of the match for his winner. The Bridge, who were only promoted into the division last season, have had a fantastic year in their new league, winning 11, drawing five and losing six. With 38 points from 22 games, they could yet be caught up by other promotion candidates with games in hand as we enter the final weeks of the season.

3. Harrogate Railway Ladies knocked out of County Cup quarter finals

Harrogate Railway Ladies were narrowly knocked out of the County Cup quarter finals by Silsden on Sunday, losing 1-0 at home. The Rail had already made history, having never previously made the quarter-finals of the competition. Having been knocked out of the League Cup, too, The Rail can now focus solely on the league. With 14 points from 11 games, Rich Burns’s side has seven games left to finish as strongly as possible.

4. Harrogate Pythons ninth after fourth straight loss

Harrogate Pythons sit in ninth place in the Counties 1 Yorkshire League, after losing their fourth game in a row on Saturday. The Pythons were beaten 22-41 at home to Old Rishworthian. In December, a spell of strong form had the Harrogate side in fourth place. But they have won just one game since the new year. With 35 points from 17 games and four games to go, the Pythons are unlikely to fall into the relegation zone, which they are 12 points ahead of. However, they could drop into tenth place should Hullensians win their game in hand.

5. Harrogate Hockey Club women thrashed in local derby

Harrogate Hockey Club’s women’s side's dismal season continued with a 7-0 thrashing from local rivals City of York on Saturday. The two sides have had contrasting seasons – York are six points clear at the top of the league, while Harrogate are rock bottom, having already been relegated. Of the 21 games played so far this season, Harrogate have lost 17. With one game to go, they cannot even catch their relegation counterparts Ben Rhydding.

6. Harrogate Town Women knocked out of County Cup in front of record crowd

Harrogate Town Women were knocked out of the County Cup quarter finals in front of a record crowd on Saturday. Kate Donnan's side took to the pitch at The Exercise Stadium shortly after the men's team had lost 1-0 to Salford. Town lost 8-1 against current holders Leeds United Women, but scored the opener in front of 1,032 supporters - a best-ever figure for the women's side. Hannah Sturdy's emphatic 35-yard chip earned her the player of the match award on what will have been a memorable night for the hosts, despite the result.
