A section of Knaresborough’s Waterside is set to be closed until Sunday.
There will be no vehicular access on the road, but pedestrians still have access to a temporary walkway and businesses remain open.
The closure is due to excavation works being carried out by Northern Powergrid.
Work began this morning and is due to end on Friday, July 12, according to North Yorkshire Council’s roadworks map.
A spokesperson from Northern Powergrid said:
We have begun vital excavation works to allow for three new electrical connection installations on Waterside in Knaresborough.
The road is temporarily closed to allow for that work to take place and a temporary walkway is currently in place.
We want to thank pedestrians for their patience whilst we conduct this installation.
The closure runs alongside Knaresborough businesses such as PJ’s Ices, an ice cream shop near the waterfront.
Philip Jakeman, of PJ’s Ices, said:
We are still open, and I think the other cafés are too. It is chaotic to close [the road] near the school holidays and not over winter, it doesn’t help local businesses.
