Have you ever wondered what a professional golfer’s worst-ever Christmas present, favourite item on a Christmas dinner, or obscure Christmas tradition is?

How about the best and worst things about his job? Or his favourite place to unwind when he’s back in Yorkshire?

We interviewed Harrogate’s PGA Tour-qualifying golfer, John Parry, for a series of quickfire questions about golf, North Yorkshire and Christmas.

Favourite club in your bag?

Probably my driver.

Least favourite club in your bag?

My putter!

Favourite course to play?

Kingston Heath in Australia.

Dream course to play?

Augusta.

Favourite playing partner?

I’d have to go with Dan Brown, a fellow Yorkshireman.

Dream playing partner?

Of players that are still playing, Scottie Scheffler.

Best golf memory?

My hole-in-one at The Open.

Best thing about being a golfer?

Travelling the world doing what you love.

Worst thing about being a golfer?

John laughed. “Probably travelling again! Travelling with delays is a nightmare.”

Pre-round snack of choice?

A bacon butty and a coffee.

Long putt or chip-in?

Chip in. I’ve probably done a similar amount of both, which says a lot about my putting!

Best local course?

Harrogate.

Best thing about North Yorkshire?

The views. And it’s got good pubs!

Worst thing about North Yorkshire?

The weather.

Favourite local place to switch off?

The Bottle and Bean in Wetherby. I know the owner, so it’s nice to go in and chat and have a coffee.

Any obscure Christmas traditions?

We don’t really have any Christmas traditions. Going to the pub, if that counts? My mum actually used to put scratch cards in our Christmas crackers, so that was always nice if you won a bit of money.

Best item on a Christmas dinner?

Definitely a well-cooked roast spud.

Favourite thing about Christmas?

Day drinking and presents.

Best present you’ve received?

It’s bad that I can’t really remember! I think I will have gotten golf clubs at some point, so probably that.

Worst present you’ve received?

I used to get those deodorant boxes, what were they called? Lynx deodorant boxes. Every year.

Favourite Christmas film?

It’s tough, but I’d probably have to say Home Alone 2.

If you could ask Santa for one golf superpower, what would it be?

To hole every putt.
