Yellow warnings have been issued by the Met Office.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice across the Harrogate district.

A yellow warning is currently in place in Ripon and Masham, which came into place at midnight, but Met Office has issued a second yellow warning covering the entire Harrogate district - including Harrogate, Boroughbridge, Knaresborough and Pateley Bridge – from midnight tomorrow (January 6).

Both warnings are in place until 11am tomorrow.

The weather could bring disruption to travel and Met Office has warned icy surfaces could lead to injuries.

However, at the time of writing, Met Office has forecast dry weather in Harrogate and Pateley Bridge tomorrow. Sleet is expected in both areas from 7pm.

In Ripon, Boroughbridge and Knaresborough, the weather also looks to be clear and dry tomorrow until the evening, when rain is expected.

It could snow at Greenhow Hill – the highest point of the Harrogate district – tomorrow morning and again from 6pm.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber cold health alert for Yorkshire and Humber until January 9.

North Yorkshire Council also today said its household waste recycling centres in Ripon and Harrogate West are currently closed due to the weather.
