Every elected councillor in North Yorkshire is allocated a locality budget of £10,000 per year.

Councillors can choose how to spend the grant, including whether to allocate larger or smaller portions to multiple initiatives.

But whatever they choose must promote the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the communities they represent.

This can include items for local charities, footpaths, attractions and more.

A new batch of allocations was revealed this week by North Yorkshire Council.

Below is a breakdown on what councillors in the Harrogate district spent.

Chris Aldred (Lib Dem) – High Harrogate and Kingsley

Cllr Aldred used £1,500 to fund the purchase of an industrial washing machine and dryer and to make a contribution towards two wheeled trollies for Harrogate Homeless Project.

Hannah Gostlow (Lib Dem) – Knaresborough East

Cllr Gostlow awarded £2,500 to fund the purchase of materials to carry out roof repairs for community-led housing in Knaresborough with Knaresborough Community Land Trust.

She also spent £1,500 to fund the legal & financial services, website creation, branding, publicity materials & venue hire for the Lido Hydro project for Knaresborough Community Energy.

Michael Harrison (Conservative) – Killinghall, Hampsthwaite and Saltergate

Cllr Harrison allocated £1,000 to fund buying and installing sound absorber panels at Hampsthwaite Village Room.

Paul Haslam (Independent) – Bilton and Nidd Gorge

Cllr Haslam used £450 to buy materials and food to celebrate Yorkshire Day at Bilton Grange United Reform Church.

He also spent £600 on family fun time events at Bilton Area Methodist Church.

Nathan Hull (Conservative) Washburn and Birstwith

Councillor Hull spent £1,200 on restoring bus shelters and installing planting troughs for Hartwith-cum-Winsley Parish Council.

Andrew Murday (Lib Dem) – Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale

Cllr Murday gave £1,200 towards the purchase and storage of decorative Christmas lights for Pateley Bridge High Street for Pateley Bridge Town Council.

Monika Slater (Lib Dem) - Bilton Grange and New Park

Cllr Slater gave £400 to purchase new goal posts for the park on Robert's Crescent in Harrogate with Bar Methodist Church.

Andrew Timothy (Lib Dem) - Stray, Woodlands and Hookstone

Cllr Timothy awarded £1,000 to fund subscription costs for the continued operation of the WoW Travel Tracker for Oatlands and Pannal Ash Road Safety and Active Travel Campaign.

Matt Walker (Lib Dem) – Knaresborough West

Cllr Walker spent £2,500 to buy materials for roof repairs to community-led housing in Knaresborough with Knaresborough Community Land Trust.

Arnold Warneken (Green) - Ouseburn

Cllr Warneken allocated £2,300 to fund the purchase and installation of a new outdoor canopy for the early years outdoor teaching area at Kirk Hammerton CE Primary School.

Additionally, £1,250 was spent on the purchase of a new lithium battery charging cabinet for the e-bikes at Open Country.

Andrew Williams, Ripon Minster and Moorside

Cllr Williams has allocated £2,000 to fund free activities and entertainment for children in Ripon Market Place with St Wilfrid’s Procession Committee.
