Almost 700 runners descended on Pateley Bridge today for the Guy Fawkes 10-mile race.

The event, organised by Nidd Valley Road Runners, previously started and finished in Ripley.

But uncertainty over the route due to the ongoing sale of the Ripley estate prompted the change of venue.

Entries surged in the final weeks and a total of 673 completed the tough but stunning route in sunshine.

Nidd Valley Road Runners’ Connor Featherstone, dressed as Guy Fawkes, led the runners off at the start.

Ilkley Harriers duo Edward Hobbs and Jack Cummings finished first and second, with the former winning in 54 minutes and 40 seconds.

The highest ranked runner affiliated to a Harrogate district club was Tom Calvert, of Knaresborough Striders, who was sixth. Rob Garbutt, of Harrogate Harriers, was eighth.

Helen Cross, of Pocklington Runners, was the first female in 1 hour, nine minutes and 18 seconds. Lucy Oldroyd, of Harrogate Harriers, was the leading local woman in seventh.
