Enjoy family fun planned for school’s 150th celebration

To mark 150 years at the centre of the community, Grewelthorpe C of E Primary School near Ripon is hosting a special anniversary event featuring entertainment, activities and family attractions.

The celebration will take place at the school and will include live music from Freddie Cleary, freshly made pizzas from Bonnie & Clyde, and two bouncy castles provided by Tilly Tumbles.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy face painting, a Pimm's tent, candy floss, a tombola, 'soak the teacher', a coconut shy, bean bag toss, giant Jenga, Connect 4 and stalls among the activities.

There will also be a special 150-year timeline exhibition highlighting the school’s history and longstanding role within the local community. Tea and coffee will also be available.

Hamza Yassin brings wildlife stories to Harrogate

There's a handful of tickets left for wildlife cameraman and presenter Hamza Yassin My Life Behind the Lens, his first nationwide theatre tour, which is taking place at the Royal Hall in Harrogate this Sunday at 2pm.

The live show combines storytelling, personal reflections and footage from filming expeditions around the world, offering insight into both his work and his passion for the natural environment. 

Known for his engaging approach to wildlife and conservation, Yassin will share memories from his life and career while encouraging audiences to reconnect with nature and consider the importance of protecting it for future generations.

Charity walk and run returns to Nidderdale

The Nidderdale Charity Walk & Run will once again bring participants together this Sunday to raise money for a range of charitable causes while showcasing the scenery of the Nidderdale countryside. 

Organised by the Rotary Club of Harrogate, the 32nd event features six routes ranging from four to 26 miles, catering to both walkers and runners in the scenic Nidderdale countryside.

The routes all start from Pateley Bridge Scout Hall and head up Nidderdale towards, and for many beyond, Lofthouse.

Entry fees go to good causes, and dozens of local charities encourage people to take part to raise money for them.

Explore the stories behind Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites

War Graves Week returns this May with a programme of events, tours and activities organised by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to encourage people to explore the stories behind those commemorated at CWGC sites around the world. 

This year’s theme focuses on the people remembered in the world wars, as well as the teams who continue to care for the graves and memorials, inspired by the commission’s For Evermore storytelling platform.

Visitors will have the opportunity to attend guided tours such as those taking place at Harrogate Stonefall Cemetery and Ripon Cemetery - booking is required; see the website for details.

Knaresborough Players bring comic Crown Jewels heist to the stage

The Knaresborough Players is staging The Crown Jewels by Simon Nye at Frazer Theatre this week, a comedy based on the true story of Colonel Thomas Blood’s audacious 1671 attempt to steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London. 

The play blends historical fact with farce and follows Blood and his band of misfits as they plot the infamous heist. It is suitable for ages 12 plus due to mild adult content.

Performances will run nightly at 7.30pm, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday 16th May. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions), 7.30pm May 13-16 with a show at 2pm on May 16, The Frazer Theatre, Park Crest, Knaresborough, HG5 0EQ.
