Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of the previous week's sporting action in the Harrogate district, focusing on the first-team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs.  Here are five highlights from the week of November 3 to 9. A full list of results is posted below.

1. Harrogate Town Women suffer derby upset

Harrogate Town Women were knocked out of the League Cup at home to York City’s development team on Sunday (November 9). City’s development team are in the league below Harrogate and had lost all of their first five games this season. City won 3-2.

2. The Last Post played at Harrogate Railway

A minute’s silence was observed at the beginning of Harrogate Railway’s home fixture against Crowle Colts on Saturday. Players and spectators stood in respect as India Harby played The Last Post before kick off to honour those who gave their lives in conflicts.

3. Ripon Rockets continue winning streak

Ripon Rockets extended their perfect start to the netball season on Monday by beating third-placed Storm 55-46. Rockets have won all six of their games in the NYNAL Senior Winter League Division One, scoring 308 points and conceding 222. They are four points clear of Claro Netball in second.

4. Last-minute penalty joy for Harrogate Rugby

Harrogate Rugby Club beat Ilkley by a single point on Saturday, winning 33-32 at home. A 79th-minute Ilkley try looked to have sealed the result, until a last-gasp penalty converted by Rory Macnab sealed victory for the Aces. Both teams have their sights set on promotion — Ilkley are second and Harrogate are fourth. Harrogate’s slim victory takes them within a point of their local rivals and has them eight points off the top of the table.

5. Harrogate Hockey Women suffer fifth straight loss

Harrogate Hockey Club’s women’s team suffered their fifth successive loss on Saturday, losing 2-1 against Newcastle. After eight games, Harrogate only have three points in the Yorkshire & North East Women's Premier Division. They are spared a last-place position only by goal difference.
