The Lower River Ure.

Flood alerts have been issued for the River Nidd and River Ure for high river levels.

Although today (January 28) is forecast to be drier than yesterday, river levels are high.

The Environment Agency last updated its alert for the Lower River Ure at 8.18am this morning (January 28).

It said that high river levels “may lead to flooding” in areas with “low lying land including agricultural land and local roads”.

The alert adds that areas such as Masham, Boroughbridge, Aldborough and Bishop Monkton could be affected.

The Environment Agency said it was “closely monitoring the situation”.

Meanwhile, a flood alert has also been issued for the Lower River Nidd catchment due to high river levels.

The alert, which was also issued this morning, covers tributaries such as Sand Beck, Sike Beck, Pool Beck and Great Gutter, around villages such as Nun Monkton, Kirk Hammerton and Cattal.

The Environment Agency said both alerts are expected to be updated at 8pm this evening or “as the situation changes”.
