An environmetally-focused Ripon organisation believes that its survey about possible extension of 20mph zones in the city has been nobbled.
On Saturday (October 11) Ripon Together will unveil the results of its survey at the third annual Green Fair to be staged by the not-for-profit partnership organisation.
The online consultation came to a close last Friday (October 3) and was designed to find out what people think about introducing more 20mph zones in principally residential areas across the city.
However, the organisation believes that some of the responses "appear to be dodgy".
David Ingham, Ripon Together director, told the Stray Ferret:
The split on the 20mph online vote is difficult to be clear about, it was very even but then, over two days, we received large batches of identical replies that appear to be dodgy and have swung the totals against extension of the limits.
He added:
We’re trying to investigate and are writing a report to describe the findings and will have a presentation with all figures ready for Saturday.
Green Fair organiser David Ingham received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Dean of Ripon the Very Revd John Dobson, at last year's St Wilfrid's Stars awards.
There are already a number of 20mph zones in areas including a section of Harrogate Road and Priest Lane, on the approaches to Ripon Cathedral Primary School and other primary and secondary schools in the city.
When the consultation was launched last month, Mr Ingham said:
We assume that some people will object, and we would like to know why and see what other suggestions they may have to make Ripon a better, cleaner place to live, learn, work and visit.
As the organisers we aren't taking a view, and we aren't proposing anything yet, we want to know what others think.
