One of Ripon’s largest employers has submitted plans for new headquarters on Dallamires Lane.
Cable installation firm FB Taylor has operated in the city since it was established in 1976 and employs about 160 staff.
The company has now applied to North Yorkshire Council for planning permission to demolish three buildings and erect new headquarters next to Ripon Farm Services.
The site would include offices, a workshop, secure storage, a washdown area and car parking.
Director Gary Taylor said in a statement to the council the company had been a “key employer and contributor to the Ripon economy since its establishment in the early 1970s” but had “outgrown our current owner-occupied premises”.
Mr Taylor added:
To sustain growth, improve operational efficiency and accommodate our expanding workforce, relocation has become imperative.
The investment will not only secure the future of FB Taylor within Ripon but will also enhance local employment opportunities, encourage inward investment and contribute to the regeneration of a key industrial zone.

According to FB Taylor's latest published accounts for the financial year ending August 31, 2024, the firm turned over £17.07 million and employed 159 staff.
A design and access statement in support of the plans says:
The proposed development will deliver a contemporary, fit-for-purpose commercial/industrial unit for FB Taylor (Cable Contractors) Ltd within an established employment area, consolidating existing dispersed operations into a single, efficient building and yard.
FB Taylor currently operates from premises on Camp Hill Close, accessed off Dallamires Lane, with a mix of offices, a maintenance workshop and external storage for cable drums, trailers and associated plant and equipment.
Existing accommodation is fragmented between buildings and external yards and supplemented by off-site storage, which reduces operational efficiency and leads to unnecessary vehicle movements between locations. The new Dallamires Lane site provides an opportunity to rationalise the operation into a single, purpose-built unit.
The council will decide whether to approve the plans.
