A Markington woman who was caught driving almost five times over the legal alcohol limit has been sentenced.
Amy Grant pleaded guilty to the offence at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 24 but returned for sentencing last Friday (October 10).
At Grant’s first hearing, prosecutor Sarah Tyrer told the court a police community support officer (PCSO) was travelling towards Ripon shortly after 11pm on July 4.
Around five miles from Ripon, the PCSO was driving behind a Vauxhall Mokka – being driven by Grant – and became concerned about its manner of driving.
The court heard Grant had a “complete lack of awareness of the road”, as she veered into the opposite lane and towards hedges, and “narrowly missed” colliding with oncoming vehicles.
Ms Tyrer said at the time Grant, of High Street in Markington, eventually stopped at McDonald’s on Harrogate Road in Ripon, where she was arrested.
Grant, 42, recorded 147 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – more than four times the legal limit of just 35 micrograms.
The defendant was also convicted of drink-driving in 2016, making this the second offence of its kind in a decade.
She admitted the offence at the first opportunity and was given an interim disqualification on July 24.
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and Grant returned to court last Friday.
According to court documents, she was handed a 12-month community order, during which she must complete up to 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
She was also made subject to a three-month curfew, which is tracked by an electronic monitoring tag.
Grant was also handed a 54-month driving ban from the date the interim disqualification was imposed (July 24) and ordered to pay £199 to the court.
