Over £7,000 has been raised for a young Ripon cricketer after he was diagnosed with a rare form of mouth cancer.
Caiden Brown, 15, was diagnosed the day before his 15th birthday, which he spent in hospital.
Doctors explained that it is an extremely rare form of cancer for a child to have, and it has evolved aggressively and rapidly.
Caiden is now unable to swallow, relies on feeding tubes, and has to visit the hospital regularly.
He is now preparing for a major, life-changing surgery, which would require most of his tongue to be removed.
Caiden has always been a keen sportsperson. He has been a member of Studley Royal Cricket Club since the age of seven and plays football for Ripon Panthers Football Club.
Speaking to the Stray Ferret, a member of Caiden’s family, who wished not to be named, said the youngster’s love for sport has remained one of his greatest sources of strength:
Up until a few weeks ago, he’d always been active. At the moment, he’s too weak to play, but he’s been watching a lot of sport to keep him happy.
Caiden is genuinely such a kind, caring young man. He will always do whatever he can to help others without asking for anything in return.
A fundraiser set up by the family to assist with medical costs has now smashed its original target of £1,000, raising £7,625 so far.
