A person had to be rescued from a well in Kirkby Malzeard last night after they went on a mercy mission to save their dog.
Firefighters from Masham and Ripon were called to the village at 6.47pm last night (March 6).
According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report, they were responding to a report of a dog that had fallen 20 feet down a well.
The report added:
“On arrival of the crews the owner had been lowered down the well and rescued the dog but was unable to get back out. Crews used working-at-height equipment to lower a harness to the person enabling the crew to pull them out.”
