North Yorkshire Police has confirmed it is treating two fires at a flat in Ripon on the same day as arson.

Firefighters were summoned to the street at 7.22am and 2.04pm on Friday (February 27).

Crews from Ripon and Harrogate attended the first incident and discovered the fire was out on arrival. They used fans to ventilate the building.

Less than seven hours later, firefighters from Ripon were back at the same location and this time used breathing apparatus and a hose to dampen down.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report said the flat had been evacuated by the time the crews arrived and “the cause was believed to be deliberate”.

The Stray Ferret contacted North Yorkshire Police for more information about the incidents.

In a brief statement today, the force said:

North Yorkshire Police were notified of two fires inside a property in High Skellgate, Ripon on 27 February. Both incidents resulted in minor damage and are being treated as arson. An investigation is ongoing.

Officers urged anyone with information to get in touch, quoting reference number 12260036251.
