A Ripon Boxer has won the Yorkshire Elite Belt.
Imogen Hawkridge, 16, defeated Isla Stevens for the under-60kg title in Beverley on Friday (February 6).
Fighting a trio of three-minute rounds, the youngster won on a split decision to claim the title.
Representing Ron Hopley’s Ripon Amateur Boxing Club, Hawkridge’s win sees the club’s number of Yorkshire Elite Belt winners rise to two.
Ben Julian won the men’s under-75kg category in June.
Speaking to the Stray Ferret yesterday, Hopley said:
It means so much because she’s a lovely girl and she’s worked so hard. It’s great for the club, too – not a lot of clubs have won two Yorkshire Elite Belts.
I thought she could have done better, but I’m always going to be harder on her. She needed to win the last round to win the fight, and she stuck with it and came out with the win.

Hawkridge has been at Ripon ABC since she was eight years old. By age 13, she was competing.
From the very start, Hopley, an ex-professional, saw her potential.
In her three years of fighting, she has won seven of her nine bouts. One of those wins was a Yorkshire development title.
Hopley backed her for big things, saying that she could go for anything, from box cups to national competitions.
